Sanitation

This includes water used for washing, bathing and toilet facilities. If the process of the Waste Water Treatment Plant is well managed the final effluent should be of a standard complying with international standards and this effluent water can be stored in ponds/dams for use in dust suppression, irrigation and process were clean potable water is not required.

Should attention not be given to the infrastructure of sanitation there is a definite possibility of contamination of the ground water resources of the project which could lead to curtailment of operations.

This is not only on the WWTP but also positioning and lining of slimes dams. With (Reference to current situation within S.A. acid mine water situation).

Another huge problem area in the WWTW is the lack of correct management of the system where parts of the system are being bypassed due to lack of maintenance, and raw sewage is often leaked into water ways and rivers ultimately contaminating water, dams and rivers. On route to these dams the contaminated river water is used by the local population and it is causing many health issues, as well as contaminating underground water
